2002 Raffle Tractor

At our fall membership meeting, we
drew the winning tickets for our raffle. Here are the results!
 |
Congratulations,
Gene Lambert of Batesville, Indiana - you are the winner of the Farmall AI! |
 |
The winner of the
pedal tractor is Randy Hampton of Hope, Indiana. |
 |
And the winner of
the afghan handcrafted and donated by Donna Hood of Rushville Indiana is Pat Schrank of Batesville, Indiana. |
Many thanks to all who
participated in our raffle - whether by buying chances or helping to sell
them, helping with restoring or hauling the tractor, or assisting us in
setting up or tearing down our booth. We appreciate you and couldn't have
done it without you!

The Pioneer Engineer Club has a new fundraising
project! A little 1942 Farmall
AI was recently purchased through the scouting efforts of our "Tractor
Man", Dick Martin. It is pictured below as director Dale Sorber
and son Justin finished installing a hot mag on it and got it
running. The engine has a really smooth sound, purring along
nicely! Our intention is to restore this little guy and take him to
various tractor shows, selling tickets for a chance to win him.
The profits will go towards buying our own grounds. Since we are featuring
International and hosting the Chapter 7 IHC Collectors, we think this tractor is
an excellent choice for this raffle.

Below are some shots of the
resurfaced flywheel and pressure plate, which is on the lathe.

After many hours of dismantling
and degreasing, vulnerable holes were plugged and the little Farmall was ready
to be sandblasted to remove all the old paint, a service generously donated to
the club by Mr. Sonny Cupp of C & C Sandblasting in New Point, IN. Thanks, Sonny! Here
is the main frame of the AI on its return. Looks a little naked, but
soon it will have a brand new red coat!

The engine is shown here on the
stand where it was cleaned and sprayed with primer. Also shown below is
the radiator after having been serviced by Batesville Farm & Tractor
Supply Company of Morris, Indiana. Thank-you, Rick and Gary, for supporting the
Pioneer Engineers Club by donating your skills!

Here is the AI in various stages
of reassembly. It was spot-painted to ensure that areas that would be
difficult to paint when it was fully assembled got a coat of
enamel. Soon it will be ready for a trip to our body work and
paint expert. Thanks go out to Jim Pulskamp of Pulskamp's Auto Body and Restoration Service in
Newpoint, Indiana for supplying the Dupont Centari paint.

Ah...the satisfaction of a job
well done. Here it is, the former, homely neglected little tractor
proudly wearing its shiny, new red paint as well as new decals, courtesy of
Maple-Hunter Decals. (Thanks, John & Jack!) After we got him reassembled, we
didn't have to ask twice if he felt like running again - he just popped right
off, and you'd never have guessed he'd been in a hundred pieces just a
few days before! This project
has been a study in teamwork, and we thank all who contributed to its
success.

Thank-you, Foremost Signs of
Greensburg, IN for donating the lettering for our signs! This is a
picture from the Brown County, Indiana show in May - the first trip we took
with the AI. You can also see the pedal tractor in this picture -
thanks, Bane's Equipment of Rushville, IN for your generous donation!

We also would like to thank Joe
Fey of Rush County for making sure the alternator was wired up properly and in
good working order.
