Exhibiting

We would love for you to bring an exhibit to the Pioneer Engineers Club's annual reunion!  Just load it up, and haul it in, and when you get here, our flaggers will direct you to the area you'll need to go.  You have to be a member of our club to exhibit, so after you unload, you'll need to come to the gate and pay your admission fee of $5.00 for the weekend and get your wristband.  Then come to the office where we'll get you and your equipment registered.

Information on registering and parading:

1) You must be a member of our club to exhibit and all exhibits must be registered.

2) Each participant is required to fill out a card for each exhibit (a trailer load of smaller items can be described on one card). Please print. We will read from these cards during the parade and it must be legible.

3) You will be given a number for each antique you exhibit. Please put this registration number on the registration card and return it to the office.

4) We hope you are able to participate in our parade! If you do, be sure to put the registration number on the driver*s left side on your exhibit so that when you come around in the parade route, we can see it at the office.

5) Always have your registration number clearly displayed on your exhibit. This enables us to answer any inquiries someone may have about your antique and to comment on it over the PA. It also ensures us that you have indeed registered your exhibit.

For the safe operation of steam-powered equipment:
 1) WATCH WATER LEVEL - ensure and maintain proper water level in boiler. Do not wait until you or your equipment is in a dangerous operating condition to ask for water. You are responsible. Do not hesitate to ask for help of any kind, for any reason.

2) Inspect your engine daily. Don't take it for granted. Make sure everything is in safe operating condition, especially around visitors.
    a. When you start up in the morning, check all valves including water valves.

    b. Make sure that your steam gauge and safety valve pressures coincide.

    c. Check your injectors operation, and know that you can keep the water at the proper level to cover the crownsheet at       all times.
    d. Shut the dome valve when you leave.

3) Do not attempt to repair any steam leak of any kind when your boiler has
pressure - you could be severely injured! Fix when engine is cold.
4) When operating your engine or any machine, mill or device, always give the
proper signal - a sharp blast on the whistle -before starting up and shutting down,
proceeding forward or backing up. Protect yourself and the visitors, especially
looking out for children. Watch exhaust showers.
5) Take into consideration the work you will be doing when firing your engine.
6) Have two operators on engines.

The following are recommendations to increase the life of your traction engine boiler tube and crownsheet and to reduce scale formation:
a. Use good, clean water and a compound to stop the oxidation process.
b. Always do a good boiler wash when laying up for the winter and another before starting up. Remove all handhole plates to flush out all the loose scale.
c. Wire brush the firebox and smokebox and run the flue scraper in the tubes and wash with water pressure, then let dry for three to four days. Then oil sufficiently using motor oil thinned with diesel fuel. Let the excess drain, and then put away for the next season.
